The Banderesi of Bucchianico
A leap into the Middle Ages to relive battles and traditions
Every May, Bucchianico turns into a vibrant stage of colours, music and traditions for the Festa dei Banderesi, which celebrates the cunning and courage of the citizens who defended it from the siege of Chieti in 1300.
The festival, held every year on 24 and 25 May, is a perfect blend of history and folklore, exuding joy and participation. The people are divided into two teams, the Banderesi and the Sponsali, who compete in games, costume parades and the traditional 'throwing of the bouquet', a symbol of good omen.
The streets of the old town are adorned with colourful flags and are filled with enthusiastic spectators who actively participate, carried away by the festive atmosphere. And for young people? Unmissable evenings of music, local food and lots of fun, all in the spirit of an event that unites the generations.
If you are looking for a festival that mixes tradition, action and a touch of excitement, Bucchianico awaits you with open arms!
