The Living Nativity Scene of Rivisondoli

A traditional Christmas representation

The oldest living nativity scene in Italy is staged in Rivisondoli, a renowned tourist resort in the heart of the Abruzzo Altipiani Maggiori, at the foot of Mount Calvary. In this enchanting natural setting, the arrival of the Messiah has been celebrated every year since 1951 in one of the region's most famous and moving celebrations.

The performance is uniquely presented through tableaux telling the story of the Gospel: shepherds descending from the nearby mountains, women in the village houses, the Magi arriving from afar and the stable crowned by a multitude of angels.

A celestial soundtrack guides the visitors, making the atmosphere even more magical and involving.
