The Stiffe Caves

Between rock and water: a journey into the heart of nature

Imagine immersing yourself in an underground world of crystal-clear water, soaring stalactites and stalagmites, where light is transformed into a game of magical reflections. That is what awaits you when you explore the Stiffe Caves, an adventurous and fascinating site in the territory of San Demetrio ‘ne Vestini, in the province of L'Aquila.

The route follows the course of an underground river, extending for about 700 metres. During your visit, accompanied by experienced guides, you can admire enchanting small lakes, rushing rapids and waterfalls that rise up to 20 metres high. The flow of the river varies from season to season, creating a constantly changing underground landscape.

As you walk along the trail, you will be enchanted by the extraordinary rock formations carved over millennia by time and water. Stalactites and stalagmites of all shapes and sizes intertwine to create a fairytale-like atmosphere.

This attraction is perfect for the whole family. The route is accessible to visitors of all ages, including children who will enjoy discovering this fantastic world, while adults will appreciate the unspoilt beauty of nature and the power of water that has shaped these caves over the centuries.
