Technical Information
If you are planning to walk the Cammino and commit to respect the cultural and anthropological heritage along the route, as well as the local communities living there, you can request the Pilgrim’s Credencial. Issued by Associazione Il Cammino della Pace, this document grants access to affiliated accomodation and dining facilities along the way. At the end of the Cammino, it also entitles you to receive an official certificate recognising the successful completion of your journey.

From L’Aquila to Monte Sant’Angelo: a Pilgrimage through History and Spirituality
Born from an act of faith and renewal, the Cammino della Pace stretches for over 300 kilometres, connecting L’Aquila to Monte Sant’Angelo in Puglia. Combining history, spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes, it offers a truly unique pilgrimage experience.
The route has its origins in a tragic event: the earthquake that struck L’Aquila in 2009. Alessandra Caramanico, a young survivor, inspired by her deep devotion to Padre Pio, conceived the idea of a path that would unite the symbolic places of her origins and her faith, winding through ancient villages, centuries-old abbeys, and unspoilt landscapes.
Following mostly the ancient “Tratturi” – the traditional shepherds’ paths – the Cammino offers travellers the chance to immerse themselves in a natural and cultural environment of extraordinary beauty. Along the way, you will encounter medieval hilltop towns with their Romanesque churches and castles, as well as protected natural parks with stunning views and remarkable biodiversity.
The Cammino della Pace is far more than a simple hiking trail. It is a journey into the historical and spiritual roots of Abruzzo – an opportunity for reflection and self-discovery. Along the route, numerous places of worship, including abbeys, churches, and sanctuaries, bear witness to an invaluable artistic and spiritual heritage.
