Aielli

Aielli, perched on the Abruzzo mountains in the heart of the Sirente-Velino Regional Natural Park, is not only a medieval village with its maze of picturesque alleys and stone houses, but an open-air museum full of colours and emotions. Here, where art meets astronomy, the ‘Borgo Universo’ festival takes place every August, transforming the village into a canvas where internationally renowned street artists, such as Okuda, Millo, An Wei and Matlakas, paint murals on the walls of the houses.

These murals tell stories, evoke emotions and interact with the local architecture and the starry sky. The most famous of these include the text of Fontamara by Ignazio Silone, a tribute to Abruzzo literature, and the Italian Constitution, a reminder of the defence of the values of democracy. There is also a tribute to Dante Alighieri with the Divine Comedy, a kaleidoscope of figures and symbols retracing the supreme poet's journey.

But Aielli is not only urban art. It is also one of Italy's Authentic Villages, rich in history and culture, where you can breathe in a magical atmosphere. The 14th-century Tower of Stars, with its astronomical observatory and planetarium, invites visitors to dream among the constellations. During the festival, music fills the streets with concerts, live performances and DJ sets, creating a festive, community atmosphere.
